Joint xylitol fermentations monitored by Kaiser and Timegate Raman devices

The fermentations were carried out at Vito utilizing the experience of VTT. The fermentations were monitored by both Timegate and Kaiser Raman spectrometers. The substrates used were xylose and xylitol and the product xylitol. Dissolved oxygen, off-gas analysis were also carried out. Offline samples were taken for further analysis. Further pure-component and mixture samples of the used components in the expected concentration ranges were prepared and measured by both devices and serve as calibration series. From these prediction models are developed. The main goal of the joint action was to examine the strengths and limitations of the spectrometers.
