Heleen De Wever obtained a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences in 1995. In 2001, she joined the Business Unit of Separation and Conversion Technology at VITO. She is currently leading VITO's biotechnology team which focusses on two main research lines. The first one is bioprocess intensification. Technological approaches include the combination of separation technology with bioconversions for high cell density fermentations, in-situ product recovery, enzyme immobilization and/or selective product separation, tailoring of biomass towards defined oligomer fractions. The second one is the valorization of gaseous substrates and CO2-rich off-gases through biotechnological approaches, such as fermentations and bioelectrochemistry.

IBISBA offers access to best-in-class facilities and know-how. Clients from academia, SMEs and big industry can find tailored solutions for their R&D needs.
Using a H2020 funding framework, IBISBA currently offers limited opportunities to researchers to obtain subsidised access to IBISBA specialised research structures and facilities, including contribution to user's travel and subsistence costs. Open Calls are launched regularly, inviting researchers from all sectors (academia and industry) ...
